A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Biography

Hello, I'm Hieyler Pimpton, an American artist born in Lynwood, CA. I have a MFA in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. I create mid-size to large scale monotypes and paintings on paper and canvas exploring interpretation of nature through visual vocabulary and expressive mark making.

My influences come from Modernists and Post-Modernist art, music, literature, and nature. I have participated in select local juried shows and art fairs throughout the U.S.

ABOUT MY PROCESS

My Work

I make mid-size to large scale gestural paintings built up through layers of acrylic paint on canvas, wood or paper using a variety of marks with a variety of tools. The work conveys a recording of time with the use of materials creating viscosity and layering representing time past through references of nature. I include references of Abstract Expressionism through the use of color. Within the works I create glimpses of things seen in nature, expressions of words from literature or references to musical compositions. While abstraction has a history of looking inward at oneself, I choose to look outward into the world. My material ideas are converted into a free-form visual experience allowing the intellectual and emotional state to act as one. I would describe my work as notations and tactile engagements of life, color, expressions of what one finds in nature and place. The marks resinate as communication that is universal in their expression. I also find that I find great satisfaction creating collages from found materials.
